How do you know when you’re dealing with a narcissist? The narcissist enjoys getting away with violating rules and social norms, such as cutting in line, chronic under-tipping, stealing office supplies, breaking multiple appointments, or disobeying traffic laws. Oversteps and uses others without consideration or sensitivity. In these situations, the narcissist uses people, objects, status, and/or accomplishments to represent the self, substituting for the perceived, inadequate “real” self. The following are some telltale signs, excerpted from my book (click on title): “How to Successfully Handle Narcissists”. The narcissist loves to talk about him or herself, and doesn’t give you a chance to take part in a two-way conversation. These grandstanding “merit badges” are often exaggerated. They fall in love very quickly, they have never loved anyone like they love you, and you are perfect in their eyes. A narcissist is a con artist and when he finds his “target” he morphs into his “Good 3.They have so many of the same interests, love everything you love, wine and dine you, they can’t get enough of you, more than likely it is the most romantic relationship you have ever had. He wants to know everything about you, is very interested in learning about your childhood, your hopes and dreams, your past relationships. Narcissistic men want their way, pay insufficient attention to what others want, and can be pretty tough to get along with.
That's the short explanation of the basics behind narcissistic personality disorder.Narcissis, as many know, was the legendary character who fell in love with his own reflection.A narcissist is someone who, usually due to childhood trauma or over-doting parents, has become obsessed with himself. How many red flags do you need in order to run away and save yourself? Time will tell, his mask will drop, that is why he is pushing for commitment, he wants to hook you before you see the real person under the facade. By themselves they don’t scream “Run for cover” , especially if you have no experience with a narcissist, but if you have half a dozen of these red flags you need to run away as fast as you can and if you can’t bring yourself to dump him because you think he is an exception to the rule and you don’t believe me; at least slow things down.If you say something that's a good idea, don't expect credit from a deeply entrenched narcissist. But he's likely to say your idea later as if it was his own.
